Access Denied (DOS)

Problem: When trying to access a database file (.VFM) the system says the record is locked and "access denied (DOS)".

Cause: There are two likely causes for this problem:

The version being run is not a network version.

Your network requires that "Share.exe" be loaded either in the Config.sys or the Autoexec.bat files. Generally applies to peer-to-peer networks (except Windows 95).

Solution: The version being run is not a network version. Obtain a "multi-user" version from VersaForm Systems, Inc. When the disk arrives follow the install directions.

Solution: Your network requires that "Share.exe" be loaded. Contact your system administrator to modify either "Config.sys" or "Autoexec.bat" file.

Keystrokes: Exit from VersaForm. At the "C\>" prompt:

Type "Edit autoexec.bat" and press <Enter>. The "Autoexec.bat" file will open for editing.

Press <Enter> to create a blank line at the top of the file.

Press the UpArrow key.

Type "C:\DOS\SHARE.EXE"

NOTE: You may need to change that the "share /f:4096 /l:500" if more locks are needed on your system.

Press ALT+F

Select X for "Exit"

When prompted about saving the file say "Y" for yes.

Re-start your computer.

Notes: We hesitate to modify a customers "Config.sys" or "Autoexec.bat" files due to possible liability problems.
