Add a blank line between detail lines on a report

Problem: Customer desires to have a blank line printed between each detail line of a printed report.

Cause: Customer reference

Solution: Add a field that has no data to the end of the report so that the total columns plus the number of fields exceeds the width of the page.

Keystrokes: From the Report Definition Menu :

Select item #1 "Set Up the Report" and press <Enter>

Validate by pressing <F1>

On the bottom of the screen you will see :

"Entries checked - N items, total column width XX, Y lines." Where "N" is the number of items, "XX" is the total width of the columns and "Y" is the number of lines to be printed on the page.

Because the total column width does not include the space between the columns add "N" plus "XX" to get the total characters printed for the items to be printed for each line.

This total should be the same as or slightly less than the number in the "Width" field. To get a blank line between the lines the above total must be greater than the "Width" field.

Press <Alt-F10> and you will see the ledger.

Press <Enter> then move the cursor to a field that is seldom used. Possibilities include the "memo" field (30 characters long) on page 2 and the "User1", User2", "User3", and "User4" fields (each 10 characters long) or the "Just1" through "Just8" fields (each 33 characters long) on page 3. The goal is to add one field that will take the total characters needed beyond the number in the "Width" field. Put the cursor in the chosen field.

Press "X" to select the field, then press "Q" and finally the <Enter> key.

In the "Title" column for this line remove all the letters (so the title will not print in your report).

Press <F1> to Validate. Check the totals to see that they exceed the "width" field.

Press <F2> to save your work.

Notes: The new field will be printed on the line under the rest of the text. Because there is no data in the field no characters will be printed and the report will have a blank line between each line of text.
