Importing Data to VersaForm A special utililty has been developed to import data into a VersaForm form. The utility consists of two files "Import" (a standard VersaForm form) and "Import.Pro", a procedure menu to use with the first file. Both files are located in a .zip file called "import.zip" located at "F:\support\import". Follow these steps to set-up the import utility: Copy "import.zip" into your VF sub-directory. At the DOS prompt type – "pkunzip import.zip" and press <Enter>. The files will be copied from the .zip file to your directory. The file to be imported must be in ASCII format and of a fixed field format or Lotus format. Use what ever method is available from your existing program to export the data to the appropiate ASCII text file. To use the utility to import data follow these steps: From the VersaForm XL Main Menu select item #2 "Filing" and press <Enter> When asked for the drive and path accept enter the correct drive and path (is not already displayed) and press <Enter> When asked for the name of the file to open type "import" and press <Enter> You will see the following screen:
In the "Key" field enter a name that will identify this import activity. The "Type" field needs an "F" for fixed with format, "L" for Lotus, etc. In the "VersaForm file" field enter the name of the VersaForm file you will be importing the data to. Include the drive and path if different than the drive and path of "import" In the "ASCII file" field enter the name of the text file that holds your data. Include the drive and path if different than the drive and path of "import" On line #1 enter the field name for the first data item to be imported in the "Field_name" column. Press <F1>. The program will fill in the "Pos" and "Len" fields. Adjust the "Len" field if needed. HINT: Record the field names exactlly as they appear before starting this process. Here is an example of a completed form:
Once the form is complete press <F2> to save your work. The final step is to run the import procedure. Press <Alt+F1> to display the following menu:
Select item #1 "Import VersaForm data from ASCII file" and press <Enter> The data will be imported to your VersaForm file. |
