Memory Fragmentation

The upgrade to MD VersaForm 7.10 includes a new operating program (7.05). A new feature is a warning of "Memory Fragmentation.

As a computer program operates it uses memory in blocks of 64 bytes. So if it needs say 100 bytes of memory it will use two blocks. When the blocks are released all 64 bytes of the first block are released but only 46 bytes of the second block are released. The second block is thus "fragmented". This block is not useable by the system.

The "Memory Fragmentation" error is a warning that a number of these unuseable blocks have built up. The default is 1,000. To disable the warning start VersaForm with the following command line option:

VF.EXE FRAGWARNING=0

The "fragwarning=" number can be set anywhere from 1 to ?????"
