Printing Claims To A File Some insurance claims processors can process claim written to an ASCII file rather than printed on paper. Aetna's ACE program, HealthCare InterChange, and StatLink are examples of this method of claims processing. This file can be copied to a diskette, or it can be sent, via a modem and a communication program, to the insurance plan processor. If your claim processor is capable of processing this kind of file, then you may create it by performing the following steps. From a patient ledger, press "F8" to bring up the "Patient Ledger Print Menu".
Option 5, "Print Insurance Claims, All Accounts" accesses the insurance claim print queue file and prints claims that are waiting to be printed. If you create, but do not print claims, they are placed into the print queue. Once a claim is printed, it is removed from the queue. When option 5 is selected, the following "Print Queue Information" screen will pop-up.
The system defaults to printing all claims within the queue to a printer. If you want to selectively print claims or to redirect them to a file, then change the defaults. In the following example the user wants to print Medicare claims that were created between the dates of "08/22/97" and "08/26/97 " to a file . The name of the file is "CHN_HCFA.CHN" and it will be placed into the "C:\MACH" directory (note the red highlighted items):
