Set up PCAnywhere to Send Claims

PcAnywhere is a communications program that can be used to transmit claims in most states. Follow these steps to set up PCAnywhere to contact a BBS (Bulletin Board Service) and then send a claims file.

Start PCAnywhere. Once the program has started click on the button "Call Online Service". [1] and then click on the icon "Add Online Service Item" [2].

In the first screen of the Wizard enter the name of the BBS you want to contact. For example "Medicare" or "Medicaid". Just start typing and the phrase "New Online Service to Call" will go away as soon as you press the first key.

When you have the name the way you want it click on "NEXT".

In the next screen of the Wizard click on the down arrow in the first box [1] to see a list of possible conneciton options. Locate your modem and highlight it [2] then press <Enter>. Finally enter your phone number (remember the 1 – area code if needed) [3].

Once you are satisfied that the screen is correct click on the "NEXT" button.

The next screen is used to select the terminal option for the BBS [1]. Most will want the default "ANSI". If your BBS needs something different click on the down arrow, locate the option needed, highlight it and press <Enter>. Click on "NEXT" [2].

Clear the check for "Automatically call the Online Service after wizard" [1]. Then click on "Finish" [2].

A new icon will appear with the name of the BBS you entered.

To edit the properties of this item click on the icon with the right mouse button and then left click on "Properties".

In the Properties Dialog you can change the communication device by selecting the "Connection Info" tab and putting a check mark by the appropriate device (generally the modem). Some BBS's require a different file transfer protocol. To change the default "Zmodem" click on the 'Settings" tab and then on the down arrow in the "File transfer protocol:" field. From the list highlight the protocol you want to use and press <Enter>. When all the setting are correct click on "OK".
